• What is Free Sticky Notes?

FreeStickyNotes is FREE Sticky Notes software (freeware) for Windows. FreeStickyNotes is a new way to record, keep and manage important information, dates and events using desktop sticky notes. Free Sticky Notes is an ideal sticky notes program for home and office. You'll be amazed at how easy and quickly you can create desktop sticky notes. To create a new sticky note just double click the program tray icon. Free Sticky Notes will not clutter up your desk and monitor and disturb your work as you can create sticky notes with different priorities, hide sticky notes or place them on the desktop, show only note's title and use transparency effect. You can choose individual visual appearance for each sticky note: title customization (background color, font), body customization (background color, font), size customization (manually, zoom feature). Various notes settings including default settings for newly created sticky notes can be modified to your preference enabling you to create a note just the way you like it. The notes' titles display the date and time of creation. Sticky notes automatically save changes as soon as they occurred, so you won't lose any important information. You can also protect sticky notes from casual delete using lock/unlock commands and "autolock" function. The position of every sticky note on the screen is changeable. You can drag-and-drop sticky notes anywhere you want on your desktop. Furthermore, you can print sticky notes and take them with you.

Send/receive Notes Troubleshooting
If you have trouble sending/receiving notes over LAN or Internet, please read our Troubleshooting section.

Receiving notes
Recipients must have Free Sticky Notes or another MoRUN.net program installed and running on their computers

 Tips:
If recipient doesn't have Free Sticky Notes or another MoRUN.net program or the program on the recipient computer is not running, you can put the check mark next to "Use Net Send if can't send notes" option in Network Settings to send a note as a Net Send message.
The Net Send utility is used to send messages to other users/computers on the network. Sender must have Windows XP/2003/2000/NT or later platforms to use this feature. Recipient must have Messenger service started (for Windows XP/2003/2000/NT) or running WinPop program on Windows 95/98/Me.
For more information about Net Send click here

Receiving notes is not available on Windows 95/98/ME.

Make sure your firewall doesn't block port Free Sticky Notes listens to and allows Free Sticky Notes receive incoming information. Free Sticky Notes listens to port 905 by default.

To receive notes from your friends you need to provide them with your correct IP address or PC name (for LAN)

If you change the port number in the Network Settings, you need to provide your friends with the new port number so they use it while sending notes to you.

Sending notes
If you have problems sending notes, make sure your firewall allows Free Sticky Notes send information. If you need to modify firewall setting, read your firewall documentation.

If recipient has changed program's listening port in Network Setting, you must specify the current port number the recipient is using.

Computer's name
You can send notes to any computer in the Local Network using computer's name. Each computer has its own name on the LAN.
To know computer's name:
• Right-click 'My Computer' icon and select 'Properties'.
• Open the 'Computer name' folder.
• See 'Full computer name' field.

IP address
Internet Protocol Address is a unique string of numbers that identifies a computer or a server on a network.
An IP address can be private, for use on a LAN, or public, for use on the Internet or other WAN. IP addresses can be determined statically (assigned to a computer by a system administrator) or dynamically (assigned by another device on the network on demand). IP addresses are usually expressed as four decimal numbers, each ranging from 0 to 255, separated by periods. For example, 127.0.0.1.
You can use an IP address to send a note to a specific computer. To receive notes from your friends you need to provide them with your IP address.

To know your IP in the Local Area Network (LAN) (for sending notes over LAN):
If you have 'Classic Start menu'
1. Right-click the 'My Network places' icon and select 'Properties' or click the 'Start' button and select Settings -> Control Panel -> Network connections or select Settings -> Network connections.
2. If you have more than one network card, select the necessary network card, right-click on it and select 'Properties'.
3. Select Internet protocol (TCP/IP).
4. Press the 'Properties...' button. You'll get the TCP/IP Properties box.
5. You can find your IP address in the IP address field. If 'Obtain an IP address automatically' option is on, you need to ask your network administrator about your IP address.
Note: in Windows NT, select Network & Dialup Connections and click on Local Area Connections.

If you have 'XP-style Start menu'
1. Click the 'Start' button and select Control Panel.

To know personal public IP address provided by your ISP (for sending notes over the Internet):
 Note: You may have:
personal static and public at the same time if you have direct connection and your IP address in ISP's network and in outside world is the same
personal static IP address but IP address you see on your computer is different from your public IP address.
personal dynamic IP address - if you connect through the dial-up/ADSL.
non-personal static/dynamic IP address. If your ISP has the same public IP address for a range of users (e.g. for your office, building, etc.), you don't have an easy way to receive notes over the Internet. We recommend you to contact your ISP to try to resolve the problem.

If you don't know your IP address, you can:
 consult your ISP
 use different IP tests.
 use a command-line utility ipconfig
Syntax: ipconfig [/all]
ipconfig /all : Displays the full TCP/IP configuration for all adapters. Without this parameter, ipconfig displays only the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway values for each adapter. Adapters can represent physical interfaces, such as installed network adapters, or logical interfaces, such as dial-up connections.
Note: If you have a dynamic IP address, you should determine your IP address each time after you connect to the Internet
